The USCCB hands over abuse investigations to laity and a third-party reporting system.

“The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) released a statement on Wednesday detailing four action items that will be implemented in response to the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church.

The statement comes shortly after several leading bishops from the United States visited with Pope Francis last week to discuss what must be done in response to the crisis. The bishops said after meeting with the Holy Father, “We look forward to actively continuing our discernment together identifying the most effective next steps.””
